Dear Families,
Last Friday was wonderful for the children. They so enjoyed saying their poems. It was really hard for Miss Nolte to choose who would participate in the Assembly on Monday. Everybody did a great job. Congratulations to the finalists who were chosen.
LANGUAGE ARTS – In reading groups we will continue working on comprehension. Our poetry project is due on Friday, January 31st. I will keep them to display at Open House. You received the Rubric for our next book report which is due on Friday, Feb. 28th. Your child may choose any book . In writing we are working on fictional narratives..
MATH – We will begin a chapter on Multiplication and Division. Hee- Haw….they are growing up fast!!!!! They are quite proud of themselves for attacking this chapter, which they think is “hard math”. I will keep for conferencing the math tests taken on Thursday. You may go on Power School to check how your child did, as I have entered their scores.
BIBLE – We will be studying Samson.
HEALTH– We will complete our unit on Nutrition this week. You probably have some food patrols around the house now letting everybody know when what is being consumed is not healthy!!! Please send a magazine with your child for categorizing the food groups.
SOCIAL SCIENCE – We will have their second Social Science Test on Thursday, January 30th. The Chapter Review is also due that day. We will be reviewing at school as well. In third grade, a test is taken at the end of every chapter, so we are preparing for that transition. This review came home in the homework folder on Friday. So when your child told you there is only a Reading Log for this week, that was correct information. Some were concerned that mom wouldn’t believe them!!!!
FUNDRAISER – The Fundraiser comes to an end on Friday, January 31st. Please turn in your money in the envelope enclosed to Mrs. Howard. The student’s name and teacher need to be written on the envelope. Many thanks for all your work in making this a very successful fundraiser.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – We are nearing the end of our 2013/14 Box Tops for Education promotion. There are 3 more Fridays left to turn in Box Tops. The last day to hand in Box Tops is Friday, February 14. Each Box Top collected is worth cash for our school. As an incentive we will be having a class contest. The class bringing in the most Box Tops at the end of this promotion will receive a “prize”. Below are the totals collected per class so far:

Mrs. Ferguson…1144 Mrs. VanderKooi…484

VALENTINE’S PARTY– We will celebrate on Thursday, Feb. 14th. Our party will be from 1:20 PM – 2:40 PM. There is a sign-up on our classroom door for the items we need. The children will exchange valentines with one another. Please be sure your child brings a valentine for everybody. A class list of names has come home, however, if you ned another one, just let me know. Reminder: In preparation for the party please bring a shoe box with your name on it by Friday, January 31st. Thanks so much!
LEARNING RESPONSIBILITY – We did better last Friday, however, some are still forgetting work envelopes and homework folders, which are due every Friday. We have spent a great deal of time talking about this and coming up with ways to help us become more responsible. Any support you can give in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help in creating responsible students.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES – Elementary conferences are scheduled for the week of Feb. 4-7. School is dismissed at 12:00 PM each day during that week. Conference invitations will be in the work envelope on Monday, Jan. 27th. Please return your conference confirmation as soon as possible and if you need to reschedule, please call Mrs. Roberts at 292-7704 – ext 103. I look forward to sharing with you the mid-year assessments and the progress your child has made.
STATE OF THE SCHOOL ADDRESS – Superintendent Debbie Siebert will hold the fifth annual State of the School Address on January 27th at 7:00 PM in the G.L. Johnson Chapel. As a school community it is beneficial for everyone involved to have a clear understanding of how well we are meeting the mission of Fresno Christian Schools. Along with reporting on the school program Mrs. Siebert will present information regarding the financial picture of our school. As we work together to strengthen Fresno Christian the more information we have about all aspects of the program the more effective our unified efforts will be.
PHYSICAL FITNESS TRAINING – We have begun preparing in earnest for our Physical Fitness Testing which is in March. The requirements for this assessment will be handed out at conferences. The requirement for each is different, depending on gender and age.
PEACH BLOSSOM – All of the presentations were wonderful. Congratulations to Sanjay Stephen, Bella Beal, Ryleigh Chavez and Tryphena Gunawan who were chosen to represent our classroom at the Peach Blossom Assembly on Monday, Jan. 27th, at 12:30 PM.
