Dear Families,

Welcome February!!!!   We welcomed February last Friday with doing  several projects for our bulletin boards. We look forward to another week!! I am very excited to meet with you and share all the accomplishments your child has made. You will be proud of what your  Second Grader can do!!!! The work from last week will be shared at conferences and will not be in the weekly envelope. 

images congratulationsCONGRATULATIONS –  All the Peach Blossom presenters did a fabulous job at our assembly. Ryleigh Chavez was chosen to present at Fresno State in March.  GREAT JOB BY ALL!!!!

LANGUAGE ARTS – As you read with your child, continue to ask them what is happening at the beginning, middle and the end of the story, as well as the characters, setting, problem and solution in their stories. In Writing we will continue working on our benchmarks for the fictional narrative.

Math imagesMATH –We will  continue our unit on Multiplication and Division. They are quite impressed with how easy this seems, compared to regrouping!!!!

SOCIAL SCIENCE –  We  completed our second Social Science Test and will begin, “People Make a Difference” next week. You will see your child’s test at conference time. We will also focus on the contributions of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington this month.

 bible_samuelBIBLE – .We will begin a two week study on Samuel and discuss what it means when we say “Here am I Lord, send me”. 

SCIENCE –  February is Dental Health month.  We will do a unit on”The Care of Our Teeth,” beginning Feb. 18th.  We will learn the names of our teeth and what each tooth’s job is, as well as stressing good oral hygiene and how that can help our teeth stay healthy.

val102bVALENTINE’S PARTY  We will celebrate on Friday, Feb. 14th.  Our party will be from 1:20 – 2:40.  The children will exchange valentines with one another. Please be sure  your child brings a valentine for everybody. A class list of names will be in the conference folder, as I have added some of our support staff who help us every day.

images-1PHYSICAL FITNESS TRAINING – We have begun preparing in earnest for our Physical Fitness Testing which is in March. You will receive a handout on the requirements for National and Presidential awards at conferences. Please wear tennis shoes to avoid any injuries.  Thanks!

SHOW AND TELL – This week will be Team A.

tn_FHH0104CANDY GRAMS – The California Junior Scholarship Federation (an organization promoting scholarship for service) at Fresno Christian Junior High is conducting its annual Candy Gram fund raiser.  The money collected will be used for books for an orphanage on the China-North Korean border. We will be selling the candy grams for $1 beginning Monday, February 3 and ending at  3 P.M. on Thursday, February 13, 2014.  The candy grams will be distributed on Friday, February 14, 2014.  If you or your child wish to purchase any candy grams, you may ask your child’s teacher for forms, or call the high school office (299-1695 ext. 4), and Mrs. Belmont will see that you get the forms you need.  If you pay by check, make them payable to Fresno Christian Schools and indicate CJSF on the memo line.
