WRITING: YOUNG AUTHORS CELEBRATION! On Monday, we will celebrate ALL students and their narrative stories. Students may bring a snack for all to celebrate after their sharing of stories.

All students did a fantastic job with creating a narrative fictional story. Six stories were chosen by outside educators as the finalists to be submitted to High School for 1st, 2nd, 3rd placement. All stories are submitted without names. Class young author writing grades are developed by use of a teacher rubric. Each students story will be published and we will celebrate our Young Authors as a class this Friday!

Congratulations to our Young Author finalists: 6th graders:  Will Henderson, Brittany McCann, Sydney Saville  5th graders: Isaac Hwang, Kennedy Robles, Mark Pimentel.

WEDNESDAY IS A HALF-DAY DUE TO TEACHER INSERVICE. DISMISSAL IS AT 12:00.

READING:

Students are choosing a country to study to tie current history to ancient history. A rubric will be sent home Monday advising how to create a research project board. The project will be given a six week outline. Students will complete different components of the project both inside and outside of class.

We will begin Literature Circles soon when our history projects are nearing completion. I estimate the time to be approximately four weeks before assignment is made in our last novel study.

MATH:

As we moved ahead, we will revisit and review concepts in fractions. This new unit will be 5/6 combined teachings on coordinate graphing.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

This week we begin a study of Greek architecture and art. Students will enjoy Greek art.

BIBLE: We continue Unit 5 which focuses on Gospel Writings: Jesus’ Ministry.

Students did a fantastic job learning the names of the 12 disciples. This week our verse is:

11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
