The Feather

The Feather Online (thefeather.com) has been a daily multi-media online newspaper since 2001, covering Fresno Christian Schools’ community news, features, sports, opinions and entertainment. During the school year, approximately 40 staff members cover campus news, sports, features, profiles, and share student opinions on issues, entertainment and teen interests, using articles, videos, photography, slideshows and podcasts.

The Feather has had numerous student webmasters over the years since its web beginnings in 2001 and is currently working on another redo. The Feather Online 2014-15 editors are currently working on a new website with adviser Greg Stobbe, photojournalism advisor Kori Friesen and new IT director Robert Hyatt. The hope is to debut it for next school year.

The goal of the staff is to reflect, represent, inform and engage the student body through the campus news, features, profiles and sports activities. The staff also seeks to provide a forum for editorials, columns and letters to the editor.

Additionally, community events and places of interest will be covered when found applicable to student concerns. Slideshows, videos, podcasts, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook are now mainstream parts of the daily edition.

Each year The Feather Online competes in two national competitions: Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) sponsored by Columbia University and the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA). The Feather competes against schools across the nation, regardless of school size or division.

The Feather Online has been a nationally-ranked newspaper since 2006 when it won its first of five National Scholastic Press Association’s Online Pacemakers (NSPA: 2013, 2012, 2010, 2008 and 2006) and is currently in competition for the 2015 award.

Additionally, The Feather Online is currently nominated for another Gold Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) who will award The Feather Online a Crown on March 20, 2015. CSPA has honored the campus newspaper with Gold Crowns in 2010-2015 as one of CSPA’s top five high school online newspapers in the United States.
