THANKSGIVING BLESSINGS!!

Thank you dear parents for the incredible, beautiful Thanksgiving meal for our class last Friday!!!  It was such a memorable day.  The food was delicious and we all appreciated your love, generosity, and kindness.  Thank you too for your tremendous help with our class Thanksgiving party.  The children loved the crafts, activities, games, and spending time all together.  What a huge blessing!!!!

Wishing you a restful time of relaxation with your family and loved ones during this Thanksgiving vacation!  May God’s peace and joy rest upon you.  Thank you for all your prayers of love and the support extended to our children, classroom, and to me.  You are loved and appreciated dearly!

CHRISTMAS FLEECE BLANKETS MINISTRY

Mrs. Savage, a Fresno Christian Parent, does a project each year with student volunteers to make fleece blankets that will be shared with Women and Children in need in the Fresno area.  Students (3rd grade and up) who wish to participate need to bring 2 or 4 yards of fleece fabric by December 1.  Each blanket requires 4 yards. They can pair up with a friend and each bring 2 yards, or bring 4 yards on their own.
In the first 2 weeks of December there will be several time slots available for teachers to send these students to room 526 to assemble their blanket with Mrs. Savage.  Parents who wish to help Mrs. Savage prepare the materials (cutting, etc.) may call her 999-1957.
CHRISTMAS REHEARSALS
Mrs. Ainley, our music teacher, is adding two rehearsals to our schedule in the next two week so that 3rd and 4th graders may rehearse with 5th and 6th graders.  These added rehearsals will take place at 8:00-8:45 AM on Monday, November 17 and Monday, November 24.  Thank you for your assistance in helping your child arrive promptly to school for this combined rehearsals.
ELEMENTARY CHRISTMAS MUSIC PROGRAM
Be sure to mark your calendars for the Elementary Christmas Program on Tuesday, December 9th in the Peoples Church Sanctuary starting at 7:00 PM.  This will be a dress-up evening for the children in their Christmas Holiday Best!  We look forward to a beautiful evening for all of your  family and friends!!  Watch for a flyer coming soon!!!
STEPHEN CARE HOMES
Our class will be going to the Stephen Care sing02Homes to sing for the residents there.  We will make Christmas cards and go Christmas caroling to three of their care homes:  Christina Care Home, Anjali Home, and Marian Homes #4.  We look forward to bring great joy to these precious, often forgotten seniors. It will also be a wonderful lesson for our children that we are to serve and minister to others. It should be a special blessing for all.

The date is Friday. Dec. 5th.   We are still in need of  carpools.  If you are able to help with transportation, there is a sign-up sheet outside our door.  We will leave at 9:00 AM and conclude our trip with a picnic lunch in a nearby Clovis park returning about 1:30 PM.
The Stephen family will provide a pizza lunch.  There will also be a sign-up sheet for other food items for our Christmas picnic lunch.  We look forward to serving our community of Fresno during this holiday season.

There will be a prize awarded to the classes that bring the most items (1 prize for grades K-3, and 1 prize for grades 4-6).If you are interested in making a financial donation, please send cash/check to the office and designate “Food – Pinedale.”  We have a program with Food Maxx where we use scrip & S.H.A.R.E.S. so FCS also benefits! If you have any  questions, please contact Rob Foshee at rfoshee@fresnochristian.com or talk to your classroom teacher.Blessings and thanks in advance for helping Pinedale and their families.

Dear Parents,

Thanksgiving is soooo late this year so we must begin our Christmas activities now!!! I know this seems strange… ……but we usually have 3 weeks after Thanksgiving before Christmas vacation and THIS YEAR we only have 2!!! So if your kids come home and say they are making stockings and angels they are telling the truth!!!

Next Friday, November 21 we will be walking to Sunrise Assisted Living (right by the tennis courts of our school) to sing our Thanksgiving songs!! I could use a few parents to help us dress the kids in their Indian clothes we made and walk with us there. We will need help dressing at 10:15 and we will walk over at 10:30. Let’s spread Thanksgiving joy to the Grandmas and Grandpas that live there!!

Our character trait this week is LOVE. Our bible verse is “No one can serve two masters,” Matthew 6:24. Our letter is N. Our sight word is we.

Don’t forget our Thanksgiving Celebration, Tuesday, November 25 at 10:45 in SMC Main (near building 6). Bring your cameras and maybe a kleenex!!

I appreciate all your support and prayers more than I can say. Blessings to you and your precious kids!

Dear Families,

It was a wonderful celebration of Mrs. Devereaux on Friday.  Thank you for all your contributions and help.  She was truly touched!!!!

We are also excited for our Blessing afternoon on Monday, Nov.24th. Please check the sign-up sheet outside our classroom door. Our hearts are full of thankfulness for God’s abundant blessings!!!

Work Envelopes – Please become in the habit of returning these EVERY Friday as well as the book bag.  There just is not time on to do this on Mondays.  We will start  on Friday with “Thinking Bench” time at recess if these two items are forgotten.  They are not in trouble, but will sit and think of some strategies that will help them remember.  When they have come up with their plan they will tell Mrs. King.  This usually ends up being 2-3 minutes.

Reading -. In our Reading Groups  we will continue with  Leveled Readers where they are becoming accustomed to unfamiliar text.  This has proved challenging for some.  Be sure you are reading the books I send home on Fridays and this should help. It doesn’t hurt to read the books twice if you are done earlier in the week. This will give much opportunity to apply the phonetic skills that they have been mastering up to this point. They will encounter words they must decode as well as words with the ed ( which has three different sounds – ed as in played, ed as in jumped, and ed as in wanted as well as ing endings. You will begin to see this in Copy and Dictation which is more challenging. Most of our seat work for November will be themed based activities.  We will not get back into our Anthology books until after Christmas vacation.

Writing – We will be working on writing about an expository place for our benchmark the week of Dec 1-5, which is right after we get back from Thanksgiving vacation.

Math – We will start a new chapter Time and Calendar. This will take us up to Christmas time. We will also be working on some math review sheets  with a Thanksgiving theme.

Social Science – We will continue with “We Love Our Country.

Bible – We will continue to  focus  on the theme of Thankfulness.

Thanksgiving Celebration– Our Thanksgiving Blessing afternoon is Monday, November 24th. We will have lunch together in our room. Please be on the watch for a sign-up from our room moms for the needed lunch items. After lunch we will go to recess and after recess at 12:30 PM we will be making a “Blessing Mix”, doing a craft and decorating a cookie..We will be doing stations for these activities. There is a sign-up for the needed items for our Blessing Mix and other party goods. Many thanks for your help in making memories with these precious children.

Thanksgiving Unit- We have many activities planned for this unit of study. We will be learning about immigrants in Social Science and the contributions they have made to America. Among the immigrants we will study are the Pilgrims who sailed from England. We will culminate our studies with a Thanksgiving Program with the Kindergartners. First Graders are the Pilgrims and the Kindergartners are the Indians. Second Graders will be Americans. Please wear dark pants or skirt and a white shirt. The girls could wear a black dress as well. Please don’t go out and buy anything special, just wear what is the closest to what you have. The program will be on Tuesday, November 25th at 10:45 AM at SMC Main. If you know your child will not be here for the program, please let me know, as that will be helpful in our preparation in assigning parts.. Thanks! Children are free to go with their parents after the program. I will be there for those who need to stay.

Absences – As we move into the Holiday Season, please e-mail any dates your child may be gone Some may be taking vacations and I want to be sure your child has everything that is needed to keep up while he/she is gone.

Show and Tell – This week is Team B. Your child can bring something to share two times during the week.

Book Orders – Our November, December and Holiday book order will be in the Monday Envelopes. I will place the order online on November 21st. If you want to order books for your child as a Christmas gift, just let me know and I will hold them aside and give them to you in private.

PARENT CORNER

THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION:   FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST

Hi Fraser Praiser Parents!  We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving Feast with a Thanksgiving Reader’s Theater Play entitled “Give Thanks for the Pilgrims” this coming Friday, November 21st at 11:30 AM in our classroom.  There is a reminder that there is a sign-up sheet by our classroom door.   Parents are welcome to come!! In the afternoon we will have Thanksgiving crafts, activities, and treats from 1:30-2:30 PM.

The date is Friday. Dec. 5th.   We will be taking carpools.

COLDER WEATHER

Please remember to send a JACKET daily with your child as the season changes to cooler weather.   Students will eat in their classrooms when the weather drops below 60 degrees or on rainy days.

TOGETHER WE CAN!

Once again we have the privilege to help the families of Pinedale this Holiday season!  We will be collecting CANned food Nov. 17th thru Dec. 9th to distribute through the Pinedale Book Buddies program.  Our students are already volunteering as Book Buddies and we would like to continue our support for their programs.

Our delivery this year will help families by providing food for Christmas.  Pinedale resource leaders put together a list of items most used in the community (see back of flyer sent home).  Please make sure to check this list before you shop.

There will be a prize awarded to the classes that bring the most items (1 prize for grades K-3, and 1 prize for grades 4-6).

If you are interested in making a financial donation, please send cash/check to the office and designate “Food – Pinedale.”  We have a program with Food Maxx where we use scrip & S.H.A.R.E.S. so FCS also benefits!

If you have any  questions, please contact Rob Foshee at rfoshee@fresnochristian.com or talk to your classroom teacher.

Blessings and thanks in advance for helping Pinedale and their families.

MULTIPLICATION FACTS

Third graders will begin a special level program to learn our multiplication facts.  Each week we will concentrate on a particular factor family.  Students will study the facts at school and students should review them at home.  We will have a daily 3-minute timed test of 36 multiplication facts in that factor family.  Our goal is to pass the fact family each Friday.  This is a progressive test and we will learn facts up through the family of 9.  Students must pass one level with 100% accuracy before moving on to the next level. Students should pass all 9 levels by the end of the third quarter.  We will begin with the factor families of 0, 1, 2, and 3’s.  Now is a great time to purchase a set of multiplication fact flash cards for your child to help with daily practice in multiplication as  well as in addition and subtraction facts if you do not yet have these tools.  The Dollar Tree offers them very inexpensively.  You may also visit abcya.com.   Go to third grade to practice multiplication facts through games on-line.
