spring-butterflies

Dear Families,

Daylight Savings has arrived!  Hooray, for more daylight hours to enjoy time outside. We had a wonderful time last week turning our bulletin boards into Spring themes. That means we are more than ready for the new season, which is just around the corner.  Bye, bye winter!  YEAH!!!! As the warmer weather arrives, please send a water bottle with your child each day. We will take drinks many times throughout the day in order to stay hydrated. Thanks! This is benchmark assessment week. The children will have assessments in Math, Writing and some in Reading.

LANGUAGE ARTS –   All groups have started the literature study,  Andi’s Indian Summer. They are enjoying the comprehension packets because they are much easier than what they have previously done.  But alas, I continue to throw in the more challenging packets, just to keep them on the tips of their toes. By now they should all be good ballet dancers!!!  Our fictional narrative  benchmark assessment will also take place this week.

Math imagesMATH –  We continue on  Numbers and Patterns to 1000. This is a real good exercise for Number Sense. Some have that well developed and others developmentally are not completely there. It comes with time for most.We will continue to revisit multiplication and division as not everyone has mastered this. This will be revisited and expounded upon greatly in 3rd grade. The chapter review for both grades will come home on Wednesday, March 12th. Our test will be Wednesday, March 19th. We will take our 3rd quarter benchmark assessment in Math this week as well.

FIVE – A DAY –   We will make the corrections at school, but  please go over at home the kinds of mistakes your child is making. You will know they made a mistake if the number beside the problem is circled in red. You do not need to send it back.

SOCIAL SCIENCE –   In our book we are on ,”People Make a Difference”. We will continue on this through  the month of March. We will take a test on this chapter when we complete it.  The chapter review will come home about a week before our test.  We will review at school as well.

bible_solomonBIBLE – We will study Solomon.

HOMEWORK – There will be no skill sheets or Book Project for the month of March. The requirement for the Reading Log will still be 100 minutes per week.  They will be working on their speech and heritage doll which will keep them plenty busy!!! Speeches will be scheduled for March 24-April 3.. The children may dress in costume if they wish and bring a food that represents their country. These suggestions are optional and not a requirement. These are done at 1:45 PM, and we will do three a day. If the time I have chosen for you does not work, just let me know and we will reschedule. The last Book Project will be a Diorama (the requirements of which will come home Friday in the Homework Folder) and will be due the morning of Tuesday, May 6th, in time for our Elementary Fine Arts Festival.

runnersPHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING – We have completed part of the activities last week.  Those left are on March 12th (Sit and Reach), 14th (Pull-Ups) and 19th Shuttle Run). It will be in the afternoons. If possible, please try not to schedule appointments for that week.  If it is unavoidable, there certainly will be make-ups. Also, please have your child in appropriate clothing and footwear (tennis shoes) for these activities.

easter-lettering1EASTER CELEBRATION – We will have a celebration on Friday, April 11th at 1:20 PM.  There will be a sign-up in a couple of weeks on the wall outside our classroom for the items needed at our party.  In addition, each child will bring 12 filled plastic, easter eggs. They can be filled with candy, stickers, erasers or whatever else you choose. Anything goes!!!!  These will be hidden outside for an egg hunt at our party!!

NEATNESS –  We are focusing on making our work neat. I am pointing out to the children samples of neat work.  We are doing lots of encouragement in this area. We will be redoing those papers which are sloppy.  I appreciate your support in this area as we together emphasize how important neat and careful work is. Many thanks!

FCS AUCTION– The FCS auction is underway!  The dinner/silent and live auction will take place on Saturday, March 15th  from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. in the FCS Gym.  Our class project is a gift basket for a Game Night. We are still in need of more games. You can check the ” Thermometer” in the hallway of Building 5 to see how we are doing with donations. We are doing well, but we sure could use some more contributions from our class. Many Thanks!

Dear Families,

Welcome March! Spring is sneaking up!!!!!  Tally’s Treasures can’t wait!!!  We are being spoiled by some beautiful weather and are loving it. We were also so thankful for the rain God sent.  Please send a water bottle with your child each day as they are warm and thirsty when recess is over!!!!

LANGUAGE ARTS –  The children are improving on their comprehension packets and getting more accurate with first time answers. We continue to work on their narrative for the upcoming benchmark assessments which is writing a fictional narrative!

mathMATH –  We have started  Numbers and Patterns to 1000. This is a real good exercise for Number Sense. Some have that well developed and others developmentally are not completely there. It comes with time for most.We will continue to revisit multiplication and division as not everyone has mastered this. This will be revisited and expounded upon greatly in 3rd grade.

FIVE – A DAY –   We make the corrections at school, but  please go over at home the kinds of mistakes your child is making. You will know they made a mistake if the number beside the problem is circled in a colored pencil or crayon. You do not need to send it back.

SOCIAL SCIENCE –  We are also are continuing to review what country we live in, the state, and the city, as well as the seven continents. In our book we are on ,”People Make a Difference”. We will continue on these units through  the month of March as well.

bible_king_davidBIBLE – We will continue with David and learn how God used him in spite of his sin.

HOMEWORK– There will be no skill sheets or Book Project for the month of March. The requirement for the Reading Log will still be 100 minutes per week. They will be working on their speech and heritage doll which will keep them plenty busy!!!  Just a reminder, when your child is ready for the final copy to use the lined paper I sent home a couple of weeks ago.  If you have lost it or need more, just let me know and I will send home more with your child. Speeches will be scheduled for the last week in March and the first week in April.  These are done at 1:45 PM, and we will do three a day. A schedule came home last week.If the time I have chosen for you does not work, just let me know and we will reschedule. The last Book Project will be a Diorama and will be due the morning of May 6th, which is the day we will have our evening, Open House.

PEPHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING – This will take place on March 5th (1/2 mi run), 7th Curl-Ups), 12th (Sit and Reach), 14th (Pull-Ups) and 19th Shuttle Run). It will be in the afternoons. If possible, please try not to schedule appointments for that week.  If it is unavoidable, there certainly will be make-ups. Also, please have your child in appropriate clothing and footwear (tennis shoes) for these activities.

BOOK ORDERA book order went home last week for the months of February and March.  I will finalize the order on March 8th. There was a coupon for a free book attached to the order form.  It was supposed to be attached to their balloon for Valentine’s Day, but they ran out at Scholastic. This coupon is now good through March 31st, so this will be your only chance to use it. We will then have one more order, which will be for April and May.

NEATNESS –  We are focusing on making our work neat. I am pointing out to the children samples of neat work.  We are doing lots of encouragement in this area. We will be redoing those papers which are sloppy.  I appreciate your support in this area as we together emphasize how important neat and careful work is. Many thanks!

class-picture-day-colorSPRING PICTURES – All children will be photographed on Tuesday, March 4th.  You do not need to send money now.  A proof will go home and if you so desire, you may order pictures at that time. These pictures  will be taken with a pretty spring background.

FCS AUCTION– The FCS auction is underway!  The dinner/silent and live auction will take place on Saturday, March 15th  from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. in the FCS Gym.  Our class project is wonderful basket for a “Game Night” .  We have received just a few games for the basket, so we are in need of many more. You can check the ” Thermometer” in the hallway in Building 5 to see how we are doing with donations and tickets. We are doing great, but we sure could use some more contributions from our class. Many Thanks!

SHOW AND TELL – This week will be Team B.

Mrs. R’s Super Stars February 24th, 2014

Hello families!! We are nearing the end of February. Last week the kids were busy learning new spelling rules, counting money, and learning all about teeth!

This week in Mrs. R’s Super Stars:

Last week we enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Air Force base! The kids had so much fun and learned a lot! Thank you Mr. Gamber for helping us out!!

Language Arts: This week in spelling we will be reviewing our blends we have learned. The students have worked on these sounds for a few weeks now. Please be sure to practice these words at home. In reading we are continuing to focus on fluency, characters, and setting of a story. We are also practicing retelling the story for comprehension practice. In writing we are writing a narrative about our selves.

Math: Last week the kids  finished up their chapter 5 math unit with a test on Tuesday. I am pleased with the outcome of the test. Areas I feel still need to be worked on are learning how to find 10 more or 10 less than a number as well as learning how to recognize a number pattern (i.e. skip counting). We are now working on money. Although the students know how to count by 5’s and 10’s it is difficult to make that connection to counting money. Please work at home with coin identification. We will be spending some time on this in the beginning of our unit. Throw a pile of coins on the table and have your child sort them by the type of coin they are. Then have them tell you what each coin type is worth. Once they master the basic identification of the coins the material will become much easier for them.

Science: Learning all about teeth

Physical Fitness: Our physical fitness test is fast approaching in March. The kiddos have been busy stretching running and building their muscles. Please practice sit-ups at home with your child. This is a tougher skill to master and the students will be tested on this.

FCS AUCTION: As February is coming to an end the FCS auction is coming closer! The auction will take place March 15th.  If you have any friends, family, or neighbors who are business owners and are willing to donate items to our auction, please be sure to speak with them. Every time someone from our class brings in an auction item it earns points for our class. The students are working towards getting a special treat!!
