Dear Families,

We will NOT be having any parent helpers this week as we will put the finishing touches on Open House projects.  We want you to be surprised on Tuesday night.  After Open House, we will be working on Mother’s Day surprises!  Also, please send water with your child as we take manydrinks throughout the day to stay hydrated in the heat.

studentsLANGUAGE ARTS – In READING, the children are enjoying the books from our Leveled Readers! We continue to talk about the main idea, setting, characters and the problem and resolution.. We continue to work on our phonic skills as well, applying them in new text. WRITING – In journal writing we are reading back what we have written and checking to see if we have the appropriate punctuation mark.

BOOK BAGS I will NOT be sending home any more book bags on Fridays.  There are so many books that have not been returned. So, we are going to take the next couple weeks locating any books that may be laying around the house. The children are good enough readers now, they can choose books of their choose to close out the school year.

Mathematics2MATH
–  We have started our Measurement Chapter, however, we will not have a test on this chapter. We will spend a couple weeks reviewing all of our Math skills we have learned this year so the children are ready for 2nd Grade.

Dear Kindergarten Parents,                                             April 27, 2015

Wow! “K” has just flown by hasn’t it!! This week we continue to learn all about the ocean. Wasn’t God creative when He made ocean life!!! Our character trait is Wisdom… thinking God’s way.

The Year End Convocation is at Peoples Church NEXT THURSDAY, May 7. Everyone is welcome! Time: 8 – 9 a.m.

OPEN HOUSE is May 5. This is a fun evening of looking at our classroom and getting lots of special things we have made throughout the year. ALL are welcome! We love showing off our great school!!! We open at 7:00 and finish up at 8:00. Come visit any time!

We are looking forward to the Mother’s Day Tea on Friday, May 8. Moms come at 10:15. If you are unable to come you can send a grandma or a special friend.

“K” Graduation is Tuesday, May 19. Kids come in the morning at 8:00. Promotion Ceremony begins at 10:00. All are welcome. A “cookies and punch” reception will follow the ceremony. Bring your camera and Kleenex!!

Wednesday, May 20, is our Witters Critters End Of The Year Swim Party at Camden’s house from 11:30 – 2:30. I will give a map and more details at the Mother’s Tea. Sign up sheet for food is by our “K” door.

1. Open House, May 5, 5:30 BBQ ($2 suggested donation). 6:30 Classrooms open. 7:30 Musical Performances.
2. Reminder, do not use the parking lots at the east end of building 5. They are reserved, per our agreement with People’s church, for Kids Inc. drop off and pick up. Many families are not following this policy and it jeopardizes our relationship with the organizations we share the campus with.

Please note… May 20 is the LAST DAY of “K”. We do NOT come to school… we just go to the swim party.

Thanks for all your help and support!!

Mrs. Witters and your wise Kindergartener!

 SOCIAL STUDIES

Third graders are preparing their Fresno History Boards for Open House during class time.  We are working on short reports of  famous Fresno pioneer leaders including Martin Theo Kearney, Dr. Richard Meux, George Roeding, and Dr. Chester Rowell along with a display of  landmarks and symbols in Fresno we have visited.  Students may wish to gather facts at home to add to their reports.  We wish to personalize our boards.  Students may bring a 4″ x 6″  (or smaller) picture of themselves in and around Fresno possibly on a field trip or another place of interest.   For example, it could be a photo with an activity  such as visiting “The Big Fresno Fair”  and panning for gold or in the Fresno Fort.  It might be your child at the Meux Home Museum or at Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies or one of the landmarks on the Historic Walking Tour of Fresno.  We are writing our final draft short reports this week and will be getting ready to assemble our shared boards near the close of the week.  So think about a small touch you might like to add whether it is a postcard or item to add to make it extra fun and special.  You may still bring them in this week by Friday, April 24th.

SCIENCE

As we continue to learn about the early beginnings of Fresno up near Millerton (once a boomtown  for the during the Gold Rush of 1849), we are also learning about WILD LIFE on the San Joaquin River and the critters that inhabit our local area.  Students have researched plants and animals along the San Joaquin River and look forward to showing you their drawings and writings at Open House.

END OF THE YEAR CONVOCATION

As the year draws to a close, we would like to gather as a family to celebrate all that God has done for us.  This End of the Year Convocation will take place on Thursday, May 7th, which is also National Day of Prayer.   All of you (parents, grandparents, family, and friends) are invited to join the teachers, students, administration, and staff as we gather together for this ending convocation held in the Peoples’s Church sanctuary.  It is a time of celebration, worship, and prayer as we end our year with thanksgiving and praise.

The service begins at 8:00 AM and will end by 8:30 AM.  All students K-12 are to report directly to the sanctuary by 7:55 AM.  Every class will be designated with a sign and balloons, making it easy to locate your child’s class.  It is exactly the same as our opening convocation seating arrangement.  You are welcome to sit with your child in their designated area or if you have more than one student attending Fresno Christian, choose where you would like to sit.  I look forward to seeing all of you at this closing event as we end our year acknowledging God’s hand upon us through prayer, worship, and heartfelt celebration.
