We Are One: Growing in Christ
AUCTION BASKET:
Our class is putting together a sports-themed basket for the auction in March. If you would like to donate an item, please bring it to the classroom by February 28th. Your child will get credit for any donation you bring. If you have any questions, please call Tara Luginbill at (559)213-8491. So far we have a football, basketball, whiffle bat/balls, and magic catch. Thank you!
WRITING:
The first draft of the Young Authors fictional narrative story is due Tuesday, February 18. This week students will revise and edit their stories. The final draft is due on Monday, February 24 and must be typed (double-spaced, Times New Roman, size 12). Parents may help students type their papers, but please do not make any changes without the student’s participation.
READING:
The required reading for the month of February is realistic fiction. The writing response will be “Add a Chapter” and is due on Friday, February 28. Students will extend the story, writing about what might happen next. Class time will be given every day for silent reading and students are expected to read a minimum of 10 pages a day. If they are unable to complete this in class, then reading becomes homework.
MATH:
The 5th grade will continue Chapter 6: Data, Statistics and Probability, and the 6th grade will continue Chapter 5: Integers and Rational Numbers.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We continue our study of Ancient Greece this week.
BIBLE: We continue Unit 5 which focuses on Gospel Writings: Jesus’ Ministry.
BIBLE MEMORY VERSE:
The memory verse for this week is Hebrews 4:12 and the test will be this Friday, February 22. Students will be graded on writing the verse accurately, including correct wording, spelling, grammar, punctuation and the scripture reference.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
SPELLING: Lesson 22 test will be on Friday, February 22.
