Dear Families,
Last Friday was wonderful for the children. They so enjoyed saying their poems. It was really hard for Miss Nolte to choose because everyone did a GREAT job. Congratulations to Chanelle Monisit, Braeden Oneida, Arlyn Rylander and Sydney Hazelton who were chosen to present at our Assembly on Monday.
Please remember to turn in your conference slip this week if you have not already done so. Please call Mrs. Roberts at 299-1695, ext. 103 if you need to reschedule.
READING – The children are becoming quite independent with their reading and their skill development work. We continue to work on comprehension and now, putting expression in their voices when they read to make it more interesting.
WRITING – We continue to focus on writing a narrative about oneself. They LOVE to write about themselves!!! We are starting to incorporate “dress up” words, or better known as adjectives in our piece. We have learned what an adjective is and when you use it. We have covered noun and verbs up to this point as well.
MATH – We will have our Chapter Test on this chapter on Thursday, January 29th. The Chapter Review will also be due on that day as well. It came home last Thursday. Remember to faithfully do a 4 minute math drill at home.
SOCIAL SCIENCE -We will have our first test on Wednesday, January 28th. A chapter review came home last week. Please go over the information with your child. We will also review at school. I will share the results of this test at conference time.
SCIENCE – We will continue on Weather and Seasons. We learned about the different kinds of snowflakes last week and how snowflakes form.
ONE HUNDRED DAYS OF SCHOOL – We will celebrate the 100th day of school on Friday, Jan. 30th. Every child should bring 100 of anything they want. The food items (small snack items like goldfish, raisins, m&m’s, pretzels, marshmallows, gummy bears, gummy worms etc,,) we will mix altogether. However, it could be stickers, pencils, erasers or whatever your child comes up with. Be creative!!!! We will write about our favorite part from our first grade year, thus far. It will be a fun day.
HEALTH AND NUTRITION – We are studying the four food groups and what constitutes healthy eating. Please send magazines, (if you have any to spare) so the kids can cut out pictures and put them in the correct food category. Dr. Rylander has graciously offered to come and share about her work as a Primary Care Physician on Tuesday, Jan. 26th. We would welcome anyone else who would like to share.
LEARNING RESPONSIBILITY – We did better last Friday, however we still have have some forgetting work envelopes and book bags, which are due every Friday. We have spent a great deal of time talking about this and coming up with ways to help us become more responsible. Again, this is to help prepare them for the higher grades where a lower score may be given for a late assignment. Any support you can give in this area would be greatly appreciated. Getting prepared for the things that are due Friday should be part of your child’s routine.
WORLD’S FINEST CHOCOLATES FUNDRAISER – The children are doing a wonderful job selling chocolates!! All money is due on Friday, January 30th. Please turn in your money in the envelopes enclosed in your boxes to Central Office, not your teachers, (student’s name and teacher need to be written on them).
PEACH BLOSSOM ASSEMBLY – Parents are invited to the Finalist Round of the Peach Blossom Assembly, Monday. Jan. 26th at 12:30 PM in the North Lobby Chapel.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES – Elementary conferences are scheduled for the week of Feb. 3-7. School is dismissed at 12:00 PM each day during that week. Your scheduled appointment time came home in your child’s Work Envelope on Tuesday, Jan. 20th. Please sign and return by Friday, Jan. 30th. If you need to change your time, please call Mrs. Roberts at 299 1695, ext. 103.
VALENTINE’S PARTY– We will celebrate on Friday, Feb. 13th. Our party will be from 1:00PM – 2:20 PM. The children will exchange valentines with one another. Please be sure your child brings a valentine for everybody. A class list of names will come home in the Monday Envelopes, however, if later on you need another one, just let me know.
SHOW AND TELL – This week will be Team B.
CANDY GRAM FUNDRAISER – The California Junior Scholarship Federation (an organization promoting scholarship for service) at Fresno Christian Junior High is conducting its annual Candy Gram fundraiser. The money collected will be used for books for a local group in the Fresno area. We will be selling the candy grams for $1 beginning Tuesday, February 3 and ending at 3 P.M. on Thursday, February 12, 2015. The candy grams will be distributed on Friday, February 13, 2015. If you pay by check, make them payable to Fresno Christian Schools and indicate CJSF on the memo line. If you or your child wish to purchase any candy grams, you may ask your child’s teacher for forms, or call the high school office (299-1695 ext. 4), and Mrs. Belmont will see that you get the forms you need.
