Dear Parents and Students,

Our 5th/6th grade adventure to the largest Egyptian Museum in the Western World is this Friday, March 7. We will tour the museum with an experienced docent. Our tour includes the following: Introduction, Gallery Walk, and Tomb Tour.

Where:  Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, San Jose, CA

Students and chaperones are to meet in the front parking lot of Peoples Church at 7:40 A.M. We will load the bus promptly at 7:45 and depart quickly. Be sure to be on time!

Our estimated time of return is 5:30 P.M. Please plan on picking up your child at the Peoples Church front parking lot.

Museum Rules: Students must not touch any exhibits and stay at least one foot away from objects. Students must speak quietly in the museum. Flash photography, backpacks, food, and drinks are not allowed in the museum.

Please wear and bring:  FCS shirt (jacket if cold), morning/afternoon snack, sack lunch in a disposal bag, water bottles, money for the gift shop (personal choice)

Do not bring:  cameras, technology devices, gum, candy, soda

SPRING PICTURE DAY:

All students will be photographed on Tuesday, March 4, with an exciting spring background. No money is needed on picture day. A proof picture and order instructions will be sent home for purchase. Sorry, a “Retake Day” will not be scheduled.

AUCTION BASKET:

Thank you to all who donated items for our sports-themed auction basket: a football, basketball, soccer ball, whiffle bat/balls, magic catch, Maximum Boom ball and football, water bottle, Slim Jim smoked snack sticks, Bulldogs golf towel, box of golf balls, and an Equestrian Dreamz gift card with a riding cap and gloves. Thank you!

JUNIOR HIGH CHEER TRYOUTS:
The time has finally come to show your school spirit! Learn stunts, jumps, and tumbling! Jr. High cheer tryouts will be held on Saturday March 29th @ 9 A.M. All 6th grade girls interested in trying out for Jr. High Cheer must attend the parent meeting held on Friday, March 14th @ 3:30 P.M. in room 521. For any questions please contact Courtney Raymundo: craymundo@fresnochristian.com

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION FINAL RESULTS

Thank you for participating in this years Box Top for Education Fundraiser. We are excited to announce that our school has collected 15,341 box tops. We will be receiving a check from General Mills for $1,534.10! A special thanks goes to Mrs. Fraser’s class who brought in the most box tops. Mrs. Fraser’s students will receive a special prize for their outstanding performance. Here are the final results:

K-12 FREE TUTORING:

Take advantage of free tutoring supervised by a high school teacher and led by veteran CSF members.

When: Every Wednesday, except half days

Where: Room 624, Building 6 (Journalism Lab)

Time: 3:05-4:00 P.M.

WRITING:

The top three Young Author stories in 5th grade and the top three Young Author stories in 6th grade, as determined by Mrs. Vander Kooi, will advance to the judging level, The AP Honors English high school class will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners at each grade level. The 1st place winners will sign their published stories at a Young Authors table at our spring open house.

READING:

The required reading for the month of March is autobiography or biography. The writing response will be a poster (more details to follow) and is due on Monday, March 31. Class time will be given every day for silent reading and students are expected to read a minimum  of 10 pages a day. If they are unable to complete this in class, then reading becomes homework.

MATH:

The 5th grade will finish Chapter 6: Data, Statistics and Probability and the chapter test will be on Thursday, March 6. The 6th grade will continue Chapter 6: Expressions and Equations.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

We continue our time travel to Ancient Greece with a study of Greek mythology.

BIBLE: We continue Unit 5 which focuses on Gospel Writings: Jesus’ Ministry.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE:

The memory verse for this week is  and the test will be this Thursday, March 6. Students will be graded on writing the verse accurately, including correct wording, spelling, grammar, punctuation and the scripture reference.
